FL Specifier April 2016 Blog PhotoAt Averett Septic Tank Co Inc., we were part of a two-year statewide test to determine the best way to improve water quality in Florida due to high phosphorous and nitrogen levels in the water. Leaking septic tanks contribute 30-50% of nutrient oversupply to the groundwater, and 1/3 of Florida households use septic tanks for wastewater treatment.

We were able to assist the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) in conducting its studies by helping to install one of three different septic treatment designs for improved water quality. When the tests were concluded, the FDOH developed new building codes that will be implemented beginning in 2016. Property owners can also install new advanced treatment systems to get started with the process of improving the groundwater in their area. It was determined that the new systems will not cause a significant increase in costs.

While the FDOH is still working on gathering details about efficiency and cost for statewide implementation, our team at Averett Septic Tank Co Inc. is proud to have been a part of the process. You can see our featured photo on the front of the Florida Specifier and read more about the importance of this new wastewater system for Florida residents.
