We know more about septic systems than most, so turn to us for advice and services for keeping yours in top condition.
To many Floridians, septic systems are the norm and they know all the maintenance tasks needed and how to keep the system in top working order. However, there are those that may just be learning about them because they just bought a house in Lake Wales, Florida with a septic system after spending most of their lives with municipal sewer services.
At Averett Septic Tank Co Inc., we believe that everyone with septic systems should have an experienced septic company guiding them on the care of their septic system. Even if you have had one for many years, it never hurts to have a refresher, so here’s some tips for both new and experienced septic system owners:
- No two properties have the same pump-out frequency needs. There are so many factors involved, including the size of the septic tank, number of people living in the home, how often there are guests, if you conduct a business from home, and attentiveness to what is flushed or allowed down the drains. There is no such thing as having it pumped too often, so always err on the side of caution.
- The less you put in the tank, the better. Don’t think of your septic tank as a trash can. Many things do not decompose readily, including so called “flushable” products. It is also advisable to learn about composting your kitchen scraps rather than use the garbage disposal regularly.
- Water conservation is important. If you overwhelm the septic tank with water, it can disrupt the normal filtering process. Consider spacing out laundry loads throughout the week and leaving time in between other high-water usages.
- Pay attention to landscaping. You don’t want any landscaping with deep root systems anywhere near your septic tank or drain field. Roots naturally gravitate toward water and waste, and they can do a real number on septic systems.
