Know your septic system is functioning properly with a regular septic inspection.
It doesn’t matter if you have your septic tank pumped out once a year or once every 5 years–if you have a septic filter, we recommend that you have a septic inspection each year if you want to catch small problems before they become big ones. At Averett Septic Tank Co Inc., when we perform a septic inspection, we are looking for a variety of things that are important. First, we’ll let you know if the tank needs to be pumped. Then we’ll move on to other factors, such as the structural integrity of the septic tank and drain field.
Some septic system problems have little in the way of noticeable symptoms, but that doesn’t make them any less urgent to resolve. For example, if an abundance of FOGs (fats, oils, and grease) are clogging up the system, the effluent cannot be properly filtered before entering the soil and groundwater. This results in contamination which is definitely not desired. If your Lake Wales, Florida home gets its water from a well on the property, the last thing you want is effluent entering the groundwater and getting into your family’s drinking water.
In addition to a septic inspection scheduled according to our recommended timelines, we also recommend scheduling one for a property that you have under contract to purchase. It is best to learn about any issues before closing so that you can renegotiate if a problem is found or, in the worst-case scenario, cancel the contract and find a different property. Sellers can also schedule one so that they aren’t hit with a surprise that could derail the sale.
